Comparing Stationary, Floating, and Lift Docks

Table of Contents

Your waterfront property is a dream, and a dock is the bridge to enjoying it fully. But here at DreamBoat Docks, we build three different types.

How do you choose the right one?

Here’s the rundown on each type, and when you should consider each

Stationary Docks: A Stable Foundation

A stationary dock is permanently fixed to the lakebed or the shoreline via pilings, posts, or cribs.

Advantages:

  • Sturdy
  • Stable
  • Durable
  • Long-lasting

Use if:

  • You live in a lake, river, or bay with minimal water fluctuation.
  • Your property sits at shallow, moderate death.
  • When your priority is a solid, robust structure.

You should also consider this deck if you want your dock to handle significant weight. If you’re planning big gatherings or want to put down heavy amenities or structures, you should consider a stationary dock.

Adaptable Access: Floating Docks

Floating docks are platforms supported by buoyant pontoons or drums, anchored to the shore or the lakebed. This allows them to rise and fall with water levels.
Advantages:

  • Adapts to changing water levels
  • Easier to install in deep water
  • Can be used or reconfigured
  • Cost-effective

Use if:

  • Your dock is subject to the tides.
  • You deal with significant seasonal depth charges.
  • When traditional pilings are impractical because the water is too deep or the ground is too soft.
  • You want easy access to the water for boating, swimming, and sports, because the dock height always matches the water.

If you have a waterfront property in Galveston, for example, this dock type is an extremely good choice.

Lift Docks: The Ultimate Protection

Lift docks, or boat lifts, are a specialty of ours. They’re designed to raise a boat all the way out of the water. They can be attached to stationary or floating docks, or they can stand alone.

Advantages:

  • Protects your boat from marine growth
  • Protects your boat from hull damage
  • Protects your boat from dock rash
  • Cuts down on boat cleaning and maintenance
  • Keeps your boat safe from debris
  • Secures your boat from theft

Use if:

  • You’re a boat owner.
  • You’re dealing with heavy currents or salt water.

Honestly we can custom design your boat lift dock so that you can still use it for entertaining too, so don’t think you’re giving up the one to enjoy the safety and security of the other.
