How long does it take to build a custom dock?

Construction of a typical residential dock may take a few days to several weeks, while permitting and design approvals can add time before work begins. Your contractor should give you a project timeline after evaluating your site.
Do I need a permit to build a dock in the Houston area?
In most cases, yes. Depending on the location, a dock may need approval from a city or county, from the agency that manages the lake or waterway and, in some tidal waters, from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
